3 Reasons Why Adults Should Get Braces

Ask a kid or a teenager – the idea of wearing braces can be a nightmare; but it can be especially nerve wracking when you’re an adult. However, orthodontic treatment is becoming more popular as people get older, which means there’s no reason to put it off. If you’re having trouble making the decision to improve your smile, here are a few reasons why we think braces are beneficial for children and adults alike:

1. Every Smile Is Important
Your smile is one of the first things people notice, so why not make a great first impression? Many people say their crooked or unattractive teeth are holding them back from living their life to the fullest. While you may have to wear something on your teeth for a few months, the results will last a lifetime.

2. Long-Term Oral Health
Teeth can shift at any age due to injury, a health condition, or simply natural growth. Crooked teeth and/or a misaligned bite can lead to other health issues including gingivitis, periodontal disease, headaches, earaches, and more. Donโ€™t leave yourself vulnerable to these health issues and consider braces instead.

3. Braces Today Are Less Noticeable
Braces have evolved over the years. You no longer need to suffer the embarrassment of being a โ€˜metal mouthโ€™ thanks toย ceramic bracesย and their translucent (clear) material. Another great advancement for teeth isย Invisalign. These clear, removable, plastic aligners are worn over the teeth, so thereโ€™s no need for metal or wires.

I visited Speaks Orthodontics to straighten my teeth before my upcoming wedding. I was originally quoted 18 months for treatment, I finished in just 12. The practice is clean, the techs are professional and kind, and Dr. Speaks is very talented. I appreciate that he is direct but remains supportive and encouraging. Highly recommend this practice!

Dr. Speaks and team have been so wonderful throughout the process of my Spark Aligners! They are incredibly consistent and compassionate. The staff has always been so welcoming and kind - always taking the time to answer any questions I have and making each appointment feeling personable and not rushed. I'm so grateful for the team and smile with confidence these days.
Response from the owner:Thank you, Annie! Your kind words about our team's consistency and compassion truly inspire us. We're thrilled to hear you're confident in your smile. We look forward to seeing you at your next appointment!

I went in for a free consultation for jaw pain. Dr. Speaks was incredibly thorough and spent time patiently explaining what he was seeing and teaching me how to treat it. Turns out I do not need orthodontia! The front desk staff were very nice and Dalia, who is the treatment coordinator, was also very kind. 10/10 from me!

Oh, and my grandson is being treated by Dr. Speaks and he and his parents are very happy so far.
Response from the owner:Thank you for your wonderful feedback, Leila! Weโ€™re thrilled to hear about your positive experience with Dr. Speaks and our team. It's great to know your grandson is also receiving excellent care. We appreciate your trust in us!

why adults need braces

Improved Confidence and Self-Esteem

One of the biggest benefits of getting braces as an adult is the boost in confidence and self-esteem that comes with having a straighter smile. Many adults may have felt self-conscious about their teeth for years, and finally getting braces can help them feel more comfortable and confident in social and professional settings.

Having a straighter smile can also improve overall mental health and well-being. Studies have shown that people with straighter teeth are often perceived as more attractive, successful, and trustworthy, which can have a positive impact on personal and professional relationships.

Enhanced Oral Functionality

Aside from the cosmetic benefits, getting braces as an adult can also improve oral functionality. Straighter teeth and a properly aligned bite can make it easier to chew food, speak clearly, and maintain proper oral hygiene. This can lead to a reduced risk of dental issues such as cavities, gum disease, and jaw pain.

By investing in orthodontic treatment as an adult, you can improve the overall health and functionality of your mouth, making it easier to eat, speak, and smile with confidence. The long-term benefits of braces far outweigh any temporary discomfort or inconvenience during treatment.
