Fact: It’s important to let your dental team know if you’re pregnant and how far along you are. Being pregnant may put you at a higher risk for certain dental conditions, and it can also limit the treatment options available.
Myth: Your oral health doesn’t affect your baby.
Fact: If you have moderate to severe gum disease, you may be at a higher risk for delivering a preterm, low-birth weight baby.
Myth: You can’t get a dental x-ray while you’re pregnant.
Fact: According to the American Dental Association, dental x-rays safe, even during pregnancy. However, if you’re having concerns, you can speak with your dentist to see if your x-rays can be postponed.
Myth: Pregnancy leaches calcium from your teeth.
Fact: Pregnant woman are at a higher risk for tooth decay, but that doesn’t mean it’s because your teeth are loosing it’s nutrients. Calcium is a very important vitamin during this time, so try to incorporate it into your diet as much as possible.
