Traditional Metal Braces
Traditional metal braces are the most common type of braces and are more comfortable today than ever before. Made of high-grade stainless steel, metal braces straighten your teeth using metal brackets and archwires. With metal braces, you have the option of adding colored elastics (rubber bands) for more fun and a colorful smile.
Ceramic Braces
Have you been considering orthodontic treatment, but you are unable to commit because you will have noticeable metal orthodontic appliances on your teeth? One alternative to conventional braces is ceramic braces. Instead of a visible metal appliance on the front side of your teeth, the ceramic braces are tooth-colored and blend in with your teeth. This is a much more conspicuous method of aligning your smile, giving you the results you hesitated to pursue.
Ceramic braces are made of clear materials and are therefore less visible on your teeth than metal braces. For this reason, ceramic braces are used mainly on older teenagers and adult patients who have cosmetic concerns. While they are definitely less visible, they require more attention to oral hygiene as ceramic braces are larger and more brittle than their metal counterparts. For these reasons, ceramic braces tend to be used more on upper front teeth than on lower teeth.
In addition to ceramic braces, there are also white-coated tooth-colored wires and gold wires that blend more with the natural colors of your mouth. At Speaks Orthodontics, we offer several types of ceramic brackets to correspond with your aesthetic and orthodontic needs.
