TAD is an Acronym for Temporary Anchorage Device
These devices are miniature implants placed into the bone of the upper or lower jaws. They are used to aid in moving teeth in a difficult direction, as well as preventing unwanted side-effects of tooth movement. When a tooth is moved in one direction, there is a subsequent movement of other teeth in the opposite direction. This is a problem that orthodontists must overcome in every case. In some situations, the control over tooth movement and the limitation of unwanted tooth movement is critical. A TAD is very helpful and can be used in these circumstances.
