Let’s face it – nobody wants a yellow smile. That holds true whether you’ve got a mouth full of braces or quite simply, a mouth full of regular teeth. So, if you’re doing your best to make sure your teeth stay as white as possible, but your ceramic braces seem to be making them look yellow we’ve got some answers for you, below!
Can Ceramic Braces Stain?
Before we dive in, there is one common misconception with ceramic braces that we need to clear up. The physical brackets that come along with ceramic braces won’t ever stain. They’re built to resist discoloration so you won’t have to worry about that.
However, the clear bands used to affix the wires to the brackets can stain and this is generally what causes your ceramic braces to look yellow, or at least more visible than you may have hoped.
How To Prevent Staining Clear Braces
Diet is the number one factor that determines whether or not teeth and orthodontic appliances stain. If your diet consists of lots of dark, deep colored foods and drinks, you’ll have a much higher chance of ending up with stained braces.
We recommend avoiding food and drinks such as wine, coffee, tea, tomato sauce, and anything else this is highly acidic and/or intense in color.
With that said, be sure to brush your teeth regularly (at least two times a day for two minutes each time) and drink lots of water, especially after a meal. This will help wash away food and drink remnants that have tendencies to stain teeth, and will leave you with a sparkling smile!
