How Often Do I Have to Wear My Aligners?
For maximum efficiency, it’s important to keep your Invisalign in for at least 20 to 22 hours a day. This leaves you a few hours to eat your favorite treats or even play a game of soccer. We want you to wear your aligners consistently because they apply pressure to your teeth that shifts them closer into place to achieve your dream smile. The longer you leave them out, the more likely they are to shift back into their original position and the longer your treatment time will be. We want you to glide through treatment without any issues, so it’s crucial that you do all you can on your end to help the process along.
Is There Anything That I Can’t Eat While Using Invisalign?
Nope! You have the flexibility to remove your aligners easily and enjoy all your favorite foods. With metal braces, there is concern about pulling wires and breaking brackets that keep our patients from being able to eat hard or sticky foods. With Invisalign, there is no such problem and you have the freedom to eat any snack you want while working toward the smile you’ve always wanted.
How Long Does Invisalign Take?
Just like you, every treatment is unique. We assess the needs of our patients and craft a custom plan that works to treat all of their problem areas and deliver beautiful results. Every patient has a different set of needs and expectations for orthodontic treatment, so it’s hard to give an exact timeline. That being said, most people wear their Invisalign for about 9 to 15 months, although this is subject to change. How Does Invisalign Teen Work?
Invisalign Teen is designed to afford you all of the freedom and flexibility that teens wish for. You’ve got a busy schedule and you need a treatment that works for you and not the other way around. Invisalign consists of a set of clear aligners that are adjusted over time to fit your mouth while shifting your teeth into place to reach the desired results. They are printed using a thermoplastic called SmartTrack® that has been engineered for your comfort. After a while, you won’t even be able to tell you have the aligners on your teeth.
To begin, we’ll take a 3D image of your mouth and use this to assess your needs, build your treatment, and print your first set of aligners. After you receive your initial set, you’ll receive a newly adjusted pair every two weeks until the end of your treatment. It’s important that you keep every pair in for at least 20 to 22 hours a day, but we know it can be difficult sometimes to know if you’ve been wearing them long enough.
One feature that is specific to Invisalign Teen is compliance indicators. These are small marks located toward the back of your Invisalign that show how consistently you’ve kept the pair in place. The more you wear your Invisalign, the fainter the marks will become. If your indicators are still bold at the end of the two weeks, this is a sign that you need to reprioritize wearing your aligners. Invisalign works best when you allow it to, so make sure you don’t accidentally slow your progress toward your dream smile.
What Happens If My Teen Loses an Aligner?
Don’t worry, we know that accidents happen. Whether your teen tossed their aligners out with their school lunch or lost them at their best friend’s house, we’ve got you covered. As soon as you realize their Invisalign is missing in action, give us a call and we can make a decision about how to move forward. The sooner you let us know, the sooner we can get them a replacement pair. In some cases, we may decide they can wait until their next pair if they are close to the end of the two weeks. Either way, it’s important that you act quickly so we can keep your teen’s teeth from shifting in a way that’s counterproductive to their treatment progress.
